GLASGOW, Ky. (4/15/13) – To celebrate Earth Day, WKU GreenToppers are offering a Rain Barrel Workshop at Glasgow Campus. Participants will learn how to make their own rain barrel to collect rainwater directly from their home’s gutter system and store it for later use.
“Building your own rain barrel is a great way to celebrate Earth Day,” said workshop instructor Amy Nemon. “These barrels are made from recycled material and can hold 55 gallons of water, so they are an effective way to conserve water and save money.”
According to Nemon, similar rain barrels can cost nearly $100-$400 at a retail store. The cost of the workshop is only $55, which includes all materials and instruction to build one rain barrel that participants can take home and install. The workshop takes place Friday, April 26 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the WKU Glasgow Regional Campus located at 500 Hilltopper Way in Glasgow.
Registration takes place through April 18. To register, visit www.wku.edu/join/rainbarrel. For additional information, call WKU Lifelong Learning at 270-745-1912 or email
