young eagles 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (5/21/13) – "I can see my house from here," said one young first-time flyer. Another noted, "I can see Walmart from here!"

Without a doubt, the majority of the hundred or so kids on hand for Saturday's Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter #1184 Young Eagles Day saw something they had never seen before... Muhlenberg County from hundreds of feet in the air.

Young Eagles Day allowed children ages seven to 17 a chance to ride in an airplane on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at the Muhlenberg County Airport, just off the 189 Bypass in Greenville.

Sue Cardwell, of Central City, brought her grandson, Jackson Cardwell, of Murray, to experience the thrill of flight.

"He has been in a plane before, but only when he was a tiny baby. This will be his first time in a plane that he actually remembers." Cardwell said.

Jeremy and Laura Duvall, of Greenville, were excited as well, waiting for Jeremy's first flight ever.

Two young flyers who had been up in a plane before noted that the first time they flew "nobody was here at all... this time everybody is here!"

Another first time flyer noted that she "could see our sister's church from up there."

Mike Richardson, vice president of Chapter 1184 of EAA, stated that “The group has been offering plane rides to young people in the county since the mid-90s. We've also expanded as well, offering plane rides to kids in Providence, Madisonville, Hancock County and Christian County. We've heard several stories of kids involved in this event that has gone on to careers in aviation." Richardson noted

He added that "June 1st we're having Wings and Wheels." This event will feature airplane rides for a $25.00 donation. There will also be food, booths, games for kids, and more.
