FRANKFORT, Ky. (8/6/13) – The Kentucky Board of Education will hold its annual retreat and regular bimonthly meeting Wednesday and Thursday, August 7 and 8, in the State Board Room on the first floor of the Capital Plaza Tower in Frankfort.
The board retreat begins at 9:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday. The board will hear presentations on its strategic plan, the impact of federal sequestration, the 2012-14 biennial budget and the districts of innovation. The board also will discuss the TELL Kentucky Survey results and the potential impact on policy. The nominating committee will meet to put forth a slate of board officers for 2013-14 upon which the board will vote at its meeting on Thursday.
On Thursday, August 8, the full board will meet at 8:30 a.m. ET and hear an update on the Professional Growth and Effectiveness System. At 10:00 a.m., Gov. Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear are scheduled to appear before the board for an update of Senate Bill 97, which cleared the way for districts to pass policies raising the compulsory school age from 16 to 18. The board will also review the Statement of Consideration for a regulation governing Kentucky High School Athletics as well as the regulation incorporating the Next-Generation Science Standards into the Kentucky Core Academic Standards. The board’s Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Committee and Management Committees also will meet.
