caleb fire MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (8/29/13) – As 19-year-old Greenville firefighter Caleb Harvell continues to fight like a champ in his ongoing battle with cancer, many heroes have stepped up to help raise funds to cover the mounting expenses of his treatment.

Jason Christy, and others with the Greenville Fire Department, along with other fire departments in the area have come up with another fundraiser that will be, not just a 5K Run, but a real test of endurance for anyone ready to take on the "Heroes Mud Run Fight For KB" challenge.
 
"We're going to have a Heroes Mud Run for Caleb Harvell on September 14th at 9:00 a.m. at the Muhlenberg Ag Center." Christy told Surfky.com reporters. "It will include a 5K Run, featuring 12 obstacles, Early registration is September 1st. After that people can pay the day of the event. What we tried to do was to come up with something that all the fire departments in the county could help with, so we came up with twelve obstacles. We have nine fire departments, including the Wendell ford National Guard Training Center. Then we asked Job Corps for one favor, and they volunteered for another, so they are actually going to do three obstacles to complete the twelve."
 
The Heroes Run will include a 3 to 4 mile mud run, 12 obstacles, with smaller versions for children. The first two waves will be timed and you must complete every obstacle. After the first two waves, participants will have a choice of completing the obstacle or detouring them. There will be seven waves to choose from, starting at 9am, 9:30, 10am, 10:30, 11, 11:30am and 12:00 pm.
 
Adult entries are $50.00 if you register before September 1st. Children's entry is $35.00 before September 1st. Door admission is $5.00 for adults, and $3.00 for children. You can register now at the Central City Convention Center or contact Tammy Piper or Lindsey Ward at 270-757-1723.
