FRANKFORT, Ky. (9/19/13) – Kentucky Emergency Management (KYEM) and State Cabinet personnel will gather today in the new Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at Boone Center Frankfort, KY, to participate in the annual Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP) exercise. The annual exercise typically simulates an accident involving chemical agents at the Blue Grass Army Depot in Richmond, KY.
The exercise brings together emergency responders and agencies that support local and statewide natural and manmade incidents. Included this year are personnel from: KYEM, CSEPP, Kentucky National Guard, U.S. Army, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky Department of Public Health, Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet, Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, Kentucky State Police, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Emergency Medical Services, American Red Cross, private sector, and local governments.
Exercise evaluators and observers will be provided through Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and KYEM.
Primarily a chemical spill exercise, lessons learned from the exercise will be applied to Kentucky Emergency Management's 'All-Hazards-Approach' and will serve to improve response and support to any type of incident or disaster.
