LOUISVILLE, KY (12/21/11) - First Lady Jane Beshear today delivered a gift to the Toys for Tots program in Louisville, encouraging Kentuckians across the Commonwealth to join her in making a charitable contribution this holiday season.
Louisville Fire Department Chief Gregory Frederick and Bob Cross, a Kentucky Toys for Tots leader, joined Mrs. Beshear as she dropped off a children’s bicycle at today’s event.
“During this season of gratitude and celebration, we must remember to share our time and blessings with those who are facing hard times,” Mrs. Beshear said. “Toys for Tots is an outstanding organization that helps citizens share the holiday spirit by giving gifts to children who may otherwise not have any presents to unwrap this season. I’m pleased to support this program’s efforts and encourage all Kentuckians to take the time to donate a gift to a child in need.”
In the Kentuckiana area, Toys for Tots is sponsored by the Marine Corps League, detachment 729. Last year, the group distributed toys to more than 21,000 and expects for at least that many children to receive toys this year.
“The Louisville Fire Department appreciates the opportunity to support Toys for Tots each year with First Lady Jane Beshear. It is a great cause that shows the giving nature of our community during the holiday season,” said Chief Frederick.
The Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots program was founded in 1947. Over the years, the program has delivered presents and a message of hope to millions of less fortunate children during the holiday season.
