LEXINGTON, KY (1/18/12) – The Kentucky Horse Council (KHC) welcomes the following new members to the 2012 KHC Board:
Jeff Fisk - Jeff Fisk has been involved with the Kentucky Paint Horse Association, the Kentucky Quarter Horse Association, and the Kentucky Cutting Horse Association for many years and is currently a National Director for the National Cutting Horse Association. In addition, his equine activities include involvement in the North American Livestock Exhibition, the Kentucky State Fair Association, KEEP and Thoroughbred Sales. Jeff is also on the Kentucky Horse Park Board and the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation Board.
Ottis Jean Lane - Ottis Jean Lane has been a horse owner for over fifty years. Over the years she has owned, shown and bred Mountain horses, Tennessee Walking horses and American Saddlebreds. She is licensed to judge all of the Mountain breeds of horses and all flatshod gaited breeds affiliated with Friends of Sound Horses/FOSH. Ms. Lane also owns cattle and is the Morgan County Farm Bureau's Equine Committee Chairperson as well as being a member of the Kentucky Farm Bureau's Equine Advisory Committee. Prior to her retirement, Ms. Lane, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and Morehead State University, taught science at the Morgan County High School for 28 years.
Chad Mendell - Chad Mendell is the former executive editor of The Horse magazine and TheHorse.com. He has authored more than 300 articles and produced nearly 200 educational videos. Over the years, he has worked with companies such as Pfizer Animal Health, Intervet, Merial and Bayer Animal Health to launch new products and educational projects. In 2010, he founded CowDog Media, an inbound marketing company. CowDog Media focuses on attracting new customers and retaining current ones through the use of articles, newsletters, podcast, videos, websites, white papers, and more. He helps business to communicate, listen, and engage with their customers without constantly having to push for the hard sale, and he helps to position companies as a thought leader and a resource in the industry.
Dr. Tammy Platt - Dr. Platt, a Ph.D.graduate of Texas Tech University in Animal, is an Assistant Professor in Animal Sciences at Morehead State University. She teaches in the area of animal and food sciences and took over coordination of the equine sciences program in May of 2009. While she still teaches some food science classes, her focus is in equine sciences. Prior to her graduate work, Dr. Platt worked for a well-known equine veterinary practice in Texas and on a large Quarter Horse breeding farm. She has also ridden, shown,raised and sold her own horses since the age of 6 and has a great passion for the industry.
