FRANKFORT, KY (1/24/12) - State Rep. Jim Gooch, (D-Providence), has filed for re-election to the 12th House legislative district. Rep. Gooch has served in the Kentucky House of Representatives since 1995.
Currently, Rep. Gooch serves as chair of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee, and member of these committees: Budget Review Subcommittee on Economic Development & Tourism; Banking and Insurance; Tourism Development and Energy and Special Subcommittee on Energy.
Rep. Gooch has long been a strong advocate for the coal industry and coal miners. “There is no other industry that means more to my district than coal and mining,” said Rep. Gooch. “I work every day to push coal and keep those coal jobs in the 12th district.”
The importance of coal to our region can be seen and felt every day. Coal provides some of the lowest utility rates in the nation for our citizens while helping create good paying jobs at places like Alcan Aluminum.
In just the last four years, Rep. Gooch’s district has received more than $300 million in projects through the six year road plan. “New roads and bridges are critical to economic development in my district. We need to have good access and well-maintained roadways to handle the heavy traffic we experience.”
Since 2000, Rep. Gooch has delivered over $33 million in funding for the district. Almost $23 million dedicated to water and sewer projects. “These projects provide better access to good, clean drinking water and opportunities for greater economic development in Daviess, Hopkins, McLean and Webster counties,” said Rep. Gooch.
Many projects have become a reality through Rep. Gooch’s leadership and cooperative effort. The Owensboro Technology Center and the West Kentucky Veteran’s Center in Hanson provide a positive impact on the region. From the Myer Creek Agriculture Complex to the McClean County Library, Rep. Gooch continues to find ways to improve the lives his constituents.
“I make sure Frankfort knows we’re here and that rural areas like ours get treated fairly. I don’t apologize for standing up for our coal, our farms or our people.” said Rep. Gooch.
While it is election season, Rep. Gooch is working hard in the legislature this year to support legislation that will protect the hard earned dollars of the taxpayers. Rep. Gooch has co-sponsored House Bill 26 which would require the state to implement drug testing for applicants and recipients of public assistance.
“Jim represents his district and the issues that his constituents truly care about very well in Frankfort,” said House Majority Leader Rocky Adkins, (D-Sandy Hook). “He is an excellent chair of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee because his knowledge of energy issues is unparalleled. He has the respect of the energy industry community and stands his ground on things that are important to Kentucky.”
“I am proud to represent the 12th legislative district and I work hard every day to help make my communities better places to live,” said Rep. Gooch. “I am grateful for the trust my constituents have placed in me and I look forward to continuing to serve them in the future.”
