CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (6/15/12) – On June 14 at 10:33 p.m. the Kentucky State Police received a call from the Calloway County Jail, reporting that a state inmate, Bradley G. Watkins, age 21, of Mayfield had walked away from the Class D Inmate Facility in Murray.
At or about the same time, a 1998 Chevrolet van, owned by Bad Bob's Barbeque Restaurant in Murray was reported stolen, to the Murray Police Department.
At 10:51 p.m., a patrol officer with the Mayfield Police Department checked a suspicious person walking in the area of 9th Street and Slaughter Street in the city limits of Mayfield. It was later determined that this subject was the escaped inmate, Bradley Watkins. He was taken into custody by the Mayfield Police Department where he was subsequently turned over to Kentucky State Police.
The Kentucky State Police and Mayfield Police later located the stolen 1998 Chevrolet van in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Mayfield. A set of keys found on the person of Bradley Watkins was confirmed to belong to this stolen vehicle.
Watkins was serving time for previous convictions relating to Auto Theft, multiple counts of Burglary, Theft By Unlawful Taking, Receiving Stolen Property and Criminal Mischief.
The investigation is continuing by the Kentucky State Police, Murray Police Department and Mayfield Police Department. Watkins was charged by state police with Escape in the Second Degree, and later lodged in the maximum security portion of the Calloway County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
