CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (6/21/12) – There are many allergens in the air that can cause respiratory problems, and Dr. Arthur Allen of Murray ENT recently started offering a region-specific allergy test that covers 30 potential allergens.
Ranging from trees and plants in our area to standard allergy triggers like dogs and cats, the test reveals which allergens affect the body and to what extent. After reading the results, Dr. Allen can then begin to help the body build natural defenses against the allergens with a series of custom-made allergy shots.
“Most people take allergy relief medicine or are forced to avoid contact with certain things that cause reactions. The allergy shots, however, are a long-term solution that helps the body learn to adapt to the allergens and stops the reaction.” Dr. Allen said.
The allergy test is comprised of small doses of allergens administered just under the skin of the arm. Within minutes, the staff can identify and measure how severely the body is reacting to each allergen. Once the data is recorded, a custom treatment is created. The weekly doses can be given quickly, allowing patients to just drop in for their shot and not have to schedule an appointment.
“As the body continues to grow and develop, it can become allergic to things it was not previously allergic to,” Dr. Allen said. “This is especially true if you have been traveling a lot or have moved to a new area.”
