CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (7/25/12) – Three members of the Calloway County High School Fishing Team competed in the High School Fishing World Finals in Russellville, Arkansas the week of July 16-21, 2012. Dalton Cooksey (left in photo), Bracken Robertson (center) and Dillon Starks (right) entered the tournament and were successful in passing safety and angler knowledge tests in preparation for the three day event. In response to a FLW request for a high school angler, Cooksey represented CCHS as part of a split team, along with Marshall County angler, Cole Bridges.
The three Lakers competed in two days of preliminary fishing, battling for scholarships and awards in the field of 120 teams. Only seven teams advanced to the finals, leaving Robertson and Starks and all other teams to compete in the consolation Cabela's Open Species Tournament held on Saturday. The Laker team took top honors in the open tournament where the purpose is to put the anglers' knowledge of various fishing habitats to the test and to show their skills when casting a variety of different lures, jigs and worms. Robertson and Starks accomplished the win by catching six different species and topped their day's catch with a 19 lb., 3 oz. Alligator Gar. They each walked away with a gift pack totaling $500.
The three are all members of the Student Angler Federation and will be competing in tournament action for the Lakers during the 2012-13 school year.
