CALLOWAY, Ky. (2/16/13) – Braxton Bogard, an 8th grade student at Calloway County Middle School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a college scholarship. The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the annual National Geographic Bee. 7th grader Victor Rojas placed 2nd in the school-wide competition.
The kickoff for this year’s Bee was the week of November 12, with thousands of schools around the United States and in the five U.S. territories participating. The school winners, including Bogard, will now take a written test; up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will be eligible to compete in their state Bee April 5th, 2013.
Winners from each state will travel to Washington D.C. on May 20-22nd to compete in the National Competition hosted by Alex Trebec. The event will take place at historic National Theater in downtown Washington, DC.
