MURRAY, Ky. (5/8/13) – On April 13th, three students from Calloway County High School were invited to compete in the American Chemical Society’s prestigious National Chemistry Olympiad, based on their performance at Murray State’s 42nd Annual Chemistry Scholarship Tournament in November.Team members for the ACS event were Landon Fike, 1st place at MSU tournament; Simon Mikulcik, 3rd place at MSU tournament; and Aaron Collie, 4th place at MSU tournament.
Approximately 1000 students from across the nation competed in a three part examination consisting of multiple choice, free response, and a laboratory practical, all of which lasted for over five hours.
Based on the results of this exam, Landon Fike has earned distinction by being named to the American Chemical Society’s High Honors division, which consists of the top 50 chemistry students in the nation.
