CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (7/25/13) – United Way of Murray-Calloway County and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library have been awarded $2,000 from the Calloway County Early Childhood Council to increase access and enrollment of children in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This investment will enable 15 children and their families to participate in the Imagination Library for free, receiving an age appropriate book per month for five years.
Launched by country music star Dolly Parton and The Dollywood Foundation, the Imagination Library fosters a love of reading among preschool children by providing them with a free hardcover book every month from birth to age five. Locally the Imagination Library was started by support from United Way, the Rotary Club, Calloway County Library, and Murray Head Start.
“The Calloway County Early Childhood Council values this program in helping children and families access age appropriate books to foster a love of reading and prepare children for school.” -Sandy Linn, Calloway County Public Library
“The committee has made this effort a wonderful reality for families with children ages birth to five. We’d like to see every child ever born, or living in Calloway County, have access to this program. It is too important to the child’s development and their future not to.” -Aaron Dail, Executive Director, United Way of Murray-Calloway County
