FRANKFORT, Ky. (3/6/13) – The Kentucky Senate has approved legislation that would forbid the state from fortifying any new federal gun laws that will restrict certain firearms and that will require gun registration.

After a long debated discussion over the Second Amendment, the chamber approved the Senate Bill 129, which is sponsored by Republican Sen. Jared Carpenter of Berea, on a 34-3 vote. The Senate Bill 129 would allow the state to disregard any new federal restrictions on ownerships of semi-automatic firearms, firearm accessories; firearm magazines and any future federal requirements for gun registration would also be disregarded.

The Senate Bill 129, which the National Rifle association is currently pushing in on other states. This is due to the recent response of gun control initiatives that President Obama released last month from the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Connecticut. The President proposed that legislation requires a background check on those who purchase guns and reinstate a federal ban on some assault weapons.

However, the Senate Bill 129 will not replace or affect any federal gun laws that were put in place before 2013. This bill will now go to the House for consideration.
