ribbon cutting surfky

HOPKINSVILLE, KY (2/23/12) – The SurfKY News Group in Hopkinsville celebrated with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at the Commerce Center Thursday afternoon. Members of the community turned out to learn more about the free, online news source that is found at surfky.com.

SurfKY President Ron Sanders, Sales Manager Melissa Powell and Reporter David Bryant were on hand to share more information about the company and its service in Hopkinsville and Christian County. Sanders says the company started in 2008 in Hopkins County and then began to expand, “We quickly added other communities and it’s a service for that community….whatever that community wants to do with it, it’s theirs.”

Sanders says they’re striving to make this a 24/7, 365 news service that covers all of Kentucky. Already the readership extends well beyond Western Kentucky. People from 127 Kentucky cities, all 50 states and 135 countries have visited Surfky.com over the past 30 days. Sanders says the site can be a great way to showcase to the world what Western Kentucky has to offer, “We’ve got a tremendous workforce, cost of living here is quite reasonable, we’ve got recreational areas with the Land Between the Lakes.”

Locally, readers can learn more about events throughout the region. Sanders commented, “We attract so many readers from so many different areas and once they get on our site they can navigate from county to county and they can read what’s going on in various counties.”
