HOPKINSVILLE, KY (3/1/12) – An Arts Gala is set for this Sunday to show off the facilities at the Christian County Public Schools Performing Arts Center. The gala is themed “…And So It Begins,” and will celebrate the opening and usage of the new facility which is located inside the new Christian County Middle School.

The event is set for Sunday, March 4 at 3 p.m. Performers include: Christian County High and Hopkinsville High School Band and Choral groups, Christian County Middle, Hopkinsville Middle and North Drive Middle School Band and Choral groups, Hopkinsville High School Drama Team, 5th Grade All-County Choir, Art-N-Motion Dance Team and the Little River Music Society.

Anyone who plans to attend will need a free ticket because seating in the PAC is limited. Tickets need to be picked up at the Christian County Board of Education between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. through Friday. Barbara Felts, Director of the Performing Arts Center, will serve as an emcee alongside Russ Guffey.

Felts gave me a tour of the facility on Wednesday afternoon. She says while the center is part of Christian County Middle School, it is available for the entire community to use. Performing arts groups are welcome along with other business and community organizations who want to rent the space. The center seats 547 people with 10 of those designated as handicap accessible. The facility offers space for make-up and dressing rooms. Closed-circuit television is provided along with a projection screen and tech booth. There is lighting hung from the ceiling and a JBL sound system installed. The new space also offers side-stage areas, a ticket booth and concession stand.

As for Sunday’s first performance, Felts says, “It’s going to be a great afternoon. It’s the actual christening of our very first performing arts center and we want to invite everyone to come because it’s just a sight to behold.” She also encourages groups to use the facility because, “It is ours.” For more information on leasing the Performing Arts Center you can call Christian County Middle School andask for Barbara Felts or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
