HOPKINSVILLE, KY (3/6/12) – On March 6, 2012, at approximately 9:25 AM, Kentucky State Police responded to the scene of an accident with injuries on KY 1348.
Once on the scene, Troopers deduced that Layton Vandervort, 64-years-old of Sturgis, was traveling west on KY 1348, approximately five miles west of Crofton. For an unknown reason, Vandervort exited the left shoulder of the road where his 2003 Freightliner semi overturned.
Vandervort, who works for Hendrickson Brothers Farms in Morganfield, KY, was hauling chicken litter. The cargo was to be delivered to Dawson Springs, KY. The roadway was shut down for approximately 3 ½ hours for the collision to be investigated.
Vandervort was transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for multiple injuries after he was extricated from the vehicle.
East and Westbound lanes of KY 1348 were shut down for over 3.5 hours while personnel cleaned-up the collision site.
