HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (3/15/13) – In December of 2011, the Hopkinsville Surface and Stormwater Utility entered into an agreement with the United States Geological Survey to provided Flood Inundation Mapping for the South Fork of the Little River within the City of Hopkinsville.
The mapping, along with forecasting provided by the National Weather Service, will be able to provide advanced notice of possible flooding, including timing and Depth.
On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 1:00 PM, Mike Griffin, Deputy Director of the U.S. Geological Survey – Kentucky Water Science Center; Jeremiah Lant, USGS Hydrologist; Mary Lamm, Service Hydrologist for the National Weather Service; and Jim Noel, Service Coordination Hydrologist for the National Weather Service, will introduce the mapping to the Hopkinsville Surface and Stormwater Utility.
The maps are accessible to the public through web viewers hosted by both the NWS and USGS. The public is invited to attend to view mapping and its capabilities.
The event will be held in city Council Chambers at the Lackey Municipal Building.
