Three Arrested for Pain Pill Offenses

drug arrest prescription 02 300PADUCAH, Ky. (3/18/13) – On March 15, 2013, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department Drug Division was contacted by Constable Tony Veltri. Constable Veltri passed along a drug tip to detectives and arranged a meeting between detectives and the tipster.

Detectives spoke with the tipster, who wished to remain anonymous, and gathered information regarding a woman who was selling her prescription pain medication. Detectives immediately began an investigation and were able to identify the woman, Kari Petty, and conduct surveillance on Petty as she purchased her prescription pain medication. Detectives then observed Petty sell prescription medication to another person as she was on the parking lot of a local hospital on Kentucky Avenue. Detectives took Petty, of Broadway Avenue, into custody at approximately 0951 A.M and seized a large quantity of Percocet, Lortab, and Soma doses. US currency, which is believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales, was also seized. Forty-one year old Petty was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail and charged with Trafficking Controlled Substance 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Degree.

Later in the morning, at approximately 12:00 P.M., detectives conducted another investigation regarding the selling of pain medication by 64 year old James Burgess of Oaks Road in Paducah, KY. During the investigation, detectives observed Burgess selling doses of Lortab on the roadside by Exit 3 of I24. Burgess was taken into custody at a gas station on Cairo Road where additional doses of Lortab and US currency, believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales, were seized. Burgess was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail on charges of Trafficking Controlled Substance 2nd Degree.

During the afternoon, deputies and detectives continued investigations into the illegal trafficking of pain medication when Deputy Lindsey Miller stopped a vehicle driven by 37 year old Emily Haskins on Rosewood Drive. Haskins, of Harrison Street, was found to be driving on a license that was suspended due to a DUI conviction. Detectives also located doses of Lortab in her jacket. Haskins also did not have insurance on her vehicle and was arrested by Deputy Miller. Haskins was lodged in the McCracken County Jail for Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Degree, Driving on DUI Suspended, No Insurance, and various traffic violations.
