UPDATE – Fourth Bomb Threat Shuts Down North Middle and Longest

bomb3

GREENVILLE, Ky. (3/19/13) – In an all too familiar scene today, March 19, 2013, main highways were blocked by police cars, fire trucks and every type of emergency vehicle one can imagine, all jamming a school parking lot. Anxious parents stood behind barricades with troubled expressions.

Today at approximately 11:00 AM, Muhlenberg North Middle School was the site of the county's fourth bomb threat since March 4th. Once again, a written bomb threat was found in a school restroom. Yesterday, a similar note resulted in the evacuation of Muhlenberg South Middle School.

School safety Director Micky Strader said in today's incident, "A student found the note and gave it to a teacher, after which the board of education and law enforcement were contacted. Those that are writing these threats have no idea of the man hours spent by the Kentucky State Police, the Greenville and Central City Police, the Muhlenberg Sheriff’s Department, EMS and the various fire departments. They just think it's a prank."

Today's incident was the first time a note was found in a girls' bathroom stall, but Kentucky State Police spokesman Sargent Dean Patterson told SurfKY News, "That does not necessarily rule out a male as a suspect. We cleared the elementary and middle schools, conducted a visual search and used two K-9s, and nothing suspicious was found."

According to Patterson, today's threat caused police investigating yesterday's bomb threat to have to stop and help coordinate the evacuation and search of Muhlenberg North Middle School.

"The burden on personnel is something those doing this just don't consider. Other things will happen that require law or fire department staffs. Or responders could even be injured in a crash trying to get to what they think is a bomb threat." Patterson added.

One official noted that another thing those responsible don't consider is that many low income students were forced to go without lunch today, since police were busy searching the school.

School officials, law enforcement, and parents are all beginning to show signs of aggravation. Numerous parents stood near the school blockades in the Copper Creek Shopping Center parking lot, anxiously waiting for any information. Some complained that because of the cool weather students should have been placed on a bus, rather than made to stand out in the cold in an area behind the school.

Others said they are ready to consider homeschooling their children rather than to continue going through what has become a far too common event in area schools.

Officials did say they have some "good leads" regarding yesterday's bomb threat while emphasizing they have no reason to believe that any of the four incidents are connected in any way. Officials also stressed that these "pranks" are all Class C felonies.

As a result of the March 8th bomb threat at the West Campus Kristopher Caleb Robinson, 18 of Drakesboro, KY, who is a student at the school, has been charged with Terroristic Threatening 1st Degree (Class C Felony)

A local youth has also been charged in the March 4th bomb threat at the Muhlenberg County East Campus. and was, charged with one count of Terroristic Threatening (1st Degree, Class C Felony) and one count of Terroristic Threatening (3rd Degree, Class A Misdemeanor).

Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is urged to contact the KSP at 1-270-676-3313 or toll-free, in Kentucky, at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous.
