pennyroyal art councilHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (5/16/13) – “The Pennyroyal Arts Council and the Hopkinsville Art Guild are partnering to undertake a new project that will be an ongoing fund-raiser and a tool to promote our community,” explains Margaret Prim, Executive Director of the Arts Council. Carolyn Self, Guild President, adds, “We are delighted to promote local artists and showcase our town.”

The project will be the production of an alphabet book, H IS FOR HOPKINSVILLE.

Each letter will be represented by an interesting “fact” and illustrated with an original work of art by a local artist. The book will retail for $20 and hopefully be available for the 2013 holiday season.

A community-wide “contest” for each alphabet letter begins today and will end on June 15th. A select committee of experts will determine a winner for each letter. These winners will be recognized in the publication. Choose a letter for a particular site or event that relates to Hopkinsville and in 45 words or less write a paragraph(s) about your topic. Material submitted should be appropriate for all age levels. To submit your idea, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or mail to PACI, PO Box 1038, Hopkinsville, KY 42241-1038 and include your name and contact information.

After the alphabet words are chosen, a request for illustrations of H IS FOR HOPKINSVILLE will be issued on June 18th. Applications will be available at the Hopkinsville Art Guild Gallery, located at the Bradford Mall, L&N Depot or on-line at www.pennyroyalartscouncil.org, and www.hopkinsvilleartguild.org. Art submissions will be due by August 15th.

All amateur and professional artists are invited to apply and participate. In addition to each letter’s page, there will be other places in the book for artwork, including the cover.

Proceeds from the book will benefit the Pennyroyal Arts Council’s and Hopkinsville Art Guild’s educational and outreach programs.
