HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (5/24/13) – Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp announced today that the city will soon host four students selected to be 2013 Summer in the City Interns. They include:
- Younique Bussell, Hopkinsville High School
- Erin Ganley, Hopkinsville High School
- Ayanna Johnson, Christian County High School
- Nile Shemwell, Christian County High School
For three weeks beginning May 28, interns will undertake various projects, develop computer and workplace skills, network, and learning how municipal government works while exploring possible career paths. Upon successful completion of the program, they earn a $500 stipend and letter of recommendation.
Mayor Kemp remarked, “We’re excited to welcome another highly qualified class of young people to this unique experience. We continue to be impressed by the caliber of students produced by our local education institutions.”
The Summer in the City Internship Program is an initiative.
Mayor Kemp launched cooperation with local high schools in 2007 during his first year in office in. During the program, interns are offered the opportunity to work in different facets of municipal government while also receiving valuable workplace readiness and other skills.
