video1OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/10/13) – Video gamers in Owensboro now have a new venue from which to get their video game fix, thanks to a new program at the Daviess County Public Library that soft opened this morning.

Program coordinator Ryan Henry told SurfKY News that the library rolled out about 90 video game titles for X-Box 360, Playstation 3, and Wii.

“Currently, we are only carrying games that are rated E or Teen,” said Henry. “We will not carry M rated games at this time.”

The library provides other media that are available on a restricted status. Television shows with a mature rating, R-Rated films, and music with a Parental Advisory or Explicit content label are available for checkout to patrons who carry the adult library card, so Henry says video games with a “Mature” rating are a possibility in the future.

According to Henry, the games currently carried at the library are only available to patrons with an Adult Library card, but that issue may be revisited in the future and that the E or Teen rated games could possibly become available to patrons with teen or children’s cards. Patrons may check out two games at a time presently, due to the limited amount of games the library currently carries. The games are checked out for a period of seven days, but may be rechecked if there are no holds on the material, according to Henry.

The Daviess County Public Library is believed to be the only library in the tri-state area to currently offer video games for checkout.

“Two libraries in the Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati area offer a program similar to ours.” said Henry.

Library cards are free to residents, people who own property or are employed full-time here, or who are full-time students. The library is located at 2020 Frederica St.
