surfky1 SPORTS 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/3/13) – Readers following our sports section at SurfKY News may have noticed a new focus regarding content: reports on local high school football games and practices throughout the week.
SurfKY News in Owensboro is now covering sports for the Owensboro area with the help of new reporter Jared Pedley. In addition to football, Pedley will be covering baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s soccer, basketball, and golf.
Pedley is originally from the Daviess County area, where he graduated from Owensboro Catholic High in 2008. He graduated from the University of Louisville in May 2013 with a degree in Communications.
Pedley said he has been interested in sports since the very beginning, and he even played football and baseball in high school.
“I’m excited about moving back to Owensboro and covering local sports in the region,” Pedley said.
SurfKY Region 3 News Director Dennis Beard said developing a spotlight on local sports is an element he planned to add from the day the office opened here.
“I knew that providing coverage would be critical to the development of our Owensboro location, especially after talking with so many local people about ways we can be more involved in helping promote the community,” Beard said. “Of course, we are just now getting started with this, so we hope people will be patient as we make changes and improvements in our sports coverage.”
He said meeting Pedley opened the door to that opportunity.
“Jared’s experience with sports – particularly football and baseball – as well as his desire to pursue a career in writing seemed a perfect fit with my goals of creating a sports section based primarily around high school sports,” Beard said. “We’re glad to have Jared as part of our team.”
