ymca 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (9/4/13) – The Christian County YMCA will be hosting their 5th Annual Trot for Troops that will take place Saturday, September 14 at 7805 Eagle Way Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

This event is a 5K/10K and 1 mile Fun Run. Registration is going on right now.

“This will be our 5th Annual Trot for Troops,” said Carolyn Altman, YMCA Fitness Director. “We do this to salute our troops and to honor the memory of our soldiers. Prior to the race there will be a color guard, prayer and the release of balloons.”

There will also be a Pancake Breakfast in the gym with donations being accepted for the 160th SOAR Night Stalkers Association. These funds will go to the Army Emergency Relief Fund that helps wounded soldiers and their families in emergency situations. The breakfast will be opened to the public between 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

“The Pancake Breakfast is something new we are doing this year,” said Altman. “We normally use the proceeds for scholarships and sports. However, this time part of the proceeds will go to the 160th.”

There will also be a certified course with electronic tag timing that will help with accuracy for the event.

“We just encourage everyone to come out and participate as a family and have fun,” said Altman.
