Greenville Police Get Much-Needed Fleet of Vehicles

muhl police1 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (11/26/13) — The Greenville Police have a whole new look, and a new source of pride. The city has just purchased a fleet of nine new Ford Interceptors for $250,000.

Officer Eric Maddox said he loves the new fleet.

"These vehicles were designed by police officers, so small items like the size of the seat have been factored in,” Maddox told SurfKY News. “We wear our duty belts for hours and they can be a real back pain. But these seats are designed for comfort."

Maddox added that the vehicles' all-wheel drive will be a big plus for winter weather.

Police Chief Darren Harvey told Surfky News he loves the fact that the vehicles present a whole new image for the city.

"These cars just give us a brighter image on patrol,” said. Harvey. “Many times, the police cars are the first thing visitors see, and it just reflects more positively on the whole city to have these Interceptors out on the streets."

Both Maddox and Harvey noted that one big plus is that each car carries a badge of honor emblem dedicated to Officer Joey Vincent, who was killed in the line of duty in the late 1990's.

Officer Maddox noted that, "this alone means a lot to us and his memory."

Greenville City Administrator Ben Van Hooser said the new design has a smaller engine, but higher horsepower due to new technology.

"This means our police fleet can save money, and still be effective. It comes with a fantastic warranty as well." Van Hooser said.
