Daviess County Public Library Expands Reading Horizons

dc public lib2 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (12/16/13) - Whether your current reading material is drab textbooks or you are running out of titles by James Patterson, do you ever feel like you’re in a reading rut? No worries; the Daviess County Public Library wants to turn your boredom into a new perspective.

Readers can get out of their comfort zone with DCPL’s “New Year, New Read” program starting Jan. 15. The program, which runs all winter until Mar. 14, is designed to start conversations about books; both classic and new.

“We want to expand people’s horizons,” said Leslie McCarty, Program Coordinator for DCPL.

New displays will be set up so that readers can go to areas around the library they have yet to discover, according to McCarty.

“It’s a good way for us to boost checkouts and get more books out to the community,” said McCarty.

The program is fully interactive; readers can log books read and also unlock virtual badges once reading is completed. For every five books read, participators have the opportunity to win prizes such as gift cards, tickets to local events, and even eReaders like the Amazon Kindle and the Barnes & Noble Nook. An end of program party will also be held in the event room at the library to celebrate the completion of the challenge.
