Muhlenberg Changes Landfill, Emergency Radio Providers

gavelimageGREENVILLE, Ky. (2/19/14) — Several major changes in service providers were made at the Feb. 13 Muhlenberg Fiscal Court meeting.

The fiscal court took a close look at savings estimated if the county's sanitation department switches from the Hopkins County landfill to the Ohio County landfill.

Robert Rhoades, superintendent of the Muhlenberg County Road Department, estimated savings will go from an average of around $27 per ton to around $18 a ton by changing from Hopkins County's landfill to the Ohio County landfill.

"We could see savings of $45,000 to $50,000 per year," Rhoades told SurfKY News after the meeting.

Kristi D. Jenkins, director of Muhlenberg County 911 Central Dispatch addressed the fiscal court's discussion of going from Western Kentucky 2-Way Radio to Motorola.

Jenkins said the change could reduce response time, which is crucial when dealing with emergency situations.

Both measures were passed.
