Amandas on Main(Photo Amber Averitt/SurfKY Reporter)KENTUCKY (3/10/14) — If you are looking for new, renewed and vintage home goods, Amanda’s on Main in Madisonville is your place to find unique and inspiring pieces sold with a smile.

“My husband and I moved to Madisonville about two years ago from Somerset,” said owner Amanda Keith. “I was having a hard time finding the right job to suit me. So, we opened up Amanda’s on Main.”

Amanda’s inventory is comprised of mostly new items made by her or other local artisans.

“Our items are mostly new or what I like to call ‘renew items,’ ” said Keith. “A lot of the items I find, come from an auction house in Louisville and then I fix up the pieces I find.”

Amanda’s also has an assortment of vintage items as well as local vendor items.

“We love when we can help local people,” said Keith. “We like to give them an outlet to be able to display their work.”

Amanda’s also sells organic cleaning products along with Turkish olive jars and flower pots.

“All of our cleaning products are plant based,” said Keith. “It is naturally made and skips all the chemicals. I try to keep the turnover of new products going so people can always find something different every time they come in here. I also try all my products before I sell them.”

Keith said she knew when she opened up a place that it had to be in the downtown area.

“We first started out on Main Street about a year ago,” said Keith. “Then we bought this building here on Sugg Street.”

Keith said that when they bought the building, it was in dire need of work.

“When we first bought this place it was divided into three office spaces with carpet,” said Keith. “So, we took it down to the bare bones and exposed the brick, dropped the ceiling to find the original wood panel ceiling, ripped up the carpet to use the old concrete floors and we even took the boards off the windows to bring in more natural light.”

Keith said she is happy that she was able to invest in the downtown area.

“It is a great place. I would love to have more shops move in,” said Keith. “The more shops like this, the more people can walk around.”

Amanda’s on Main recently received the Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber Horizon Award for 2013.

“It is an award that is given to a new business that have been open for three years or less,” said Keith. “We were so excited to have been presented with this award.”

Keith encourages the community to shop at mom and pop shops.

“It’s so easy to go to all these big box stores,” said Keith. “That’s why we try to bring in one of kind local items, naturally based products, soaps and candles or things that you can’t really find in these big stores.”
