Students, WKU Public Radio Staff Receive AP Roadcast Awards

wku newsBOWLING GREEN, Ky. (4/2/14) — Several WKU students and WKU Public Radio staff members were honored Saturday night with 2014 Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters awards.

First-place awards in the college division included Mitchell Grogg of Evansville, Ind., Best Newscast for WKU NewsChannel 12, Rachel South of Nashville, Tenn., Best Feature Story TV, T.J. Parker of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Best News Story TV and Elliott Pratt of Springfield, Tenn., Best Sports Coverage TV.

In the radio division, WKYU-FM’s awards included a first-place award for Kevin Willis in Best Long Light News Feature, second-place awards for Joe Corcoran in Best Long Serious News Feature, Emil Moffatt in Best Sports Feature and WKU Public Radio staff for Best Long Newscast and Best Website, and honorable mention awards for Lisa Autry in Best Long Serious News Feature and Best Sports Feature.

Other WKU student awards in the college division included:

  • Samira Asad of LaGrange, second place, Best Feature Story Radio; third place, Best News Story Radio.

  • Haddy Badjie of Lewisville, Texas, second place, Best Public Affairs Radio.

  • T.J. Parker of Glen Ellyn, Ill., second place, Best College TV Reporter; third place, Best Public Affairs TV.

  • Elliott Pratt of Springfield, Tenn., second place, Best College TV Videographer.

  • Leah Voss of Springfield, Ohio, third place, Best College TV Videographer.

  • Laura Beranek of Ashland, Neb., second place, Best Feature Story TV.

  • Jordan Morton of Jasper, Ind., third place, Best Newscast TV for WKU NewsChannel 12.
