Grass Season – Keeping Owensboro Beautiful

mowingOWENSBORO, Ky. (5/2/14) — The City of Owensboro is asking for the public’s help keeping Owensboro beautiful and safe as the grass growing season is upon us.

We receive many calls starting this time of year about tall grass violations, which not only is an eyesore, but can also be a potential hazard to public health. As a friendly reminder, any person that owns property within the municipal boundaries shall maintain their property, including keeping grass trimmed at or below the measurement of ten inches.

If a violation occurs, the property owner may be issued a citation for weeds and/or grass nuisance, and will be additionally required to bring the property into code compliance. The code enforcement officer may, with the citation, serve the violator with notice that the city shall cause such violation to be corrected at the owner’s expense if the violation has not been corrected.

The citation schedule for tall grass is as follows:

Violation (Uncontested), Property Maintenance and Nuisances, Non-Structural Violations

  • First offense $75.00.

  • Second offense $150.00.

  • Third offense $300.00.

Please help keep Owensboro beautiful this summer by keeping your property maintained.

For more information about the penalty schedule for tall grass and other structural violations, please visit Chapter 5 of the Owensboro Municipal Code at www.owensboro.org under Section 5-163.
