MORGANFIELD, Ky. (8/5/14) — Hopkinsville turned in a score of 301 to win the team title at the Union County Invitational at Breckinridge Golf and Country Club Monday.
Individually, Owensboro Catholic standout John Augenstein delivered a 4-under-par 68 to earn the top honor at the Union County hosted boys' high school golf tournament. Both Hopkinsville and Augenstein excelled throughout the early-season event.
Augenstein led Owensboro Catholic to a fourth-place finish in the tournament's team standings. Prior to competing in the Union County tournament, over the weekend, Augenstein prevailed in the Hancock Bank/Subway Schoolboy Classic at Windward Heights Country Club in Hawesville.
Hopkinsville and Owensboro Catholic will each compete for tournament titles throughout the 2014 Kentucky boys' high school golf season. The squads will join other area teams in regional tournament competition in late-September.Kentucky High School Athletic Association state tournaments are scheduled for early-October.
