K-9-Photo(lr) Sgt. Todd DeArmond with Bokito and Sgt. Tyler DeArmond with Diesel.HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (8/15/14) — Hopkinsville Police K-9’s 'Bokito' and 'Diesel' will be retiring from the department Tuesday Aug. 19 at the Hopkinsville City Council Meeting.

“Bokito”, who was handled for the last 6 years by Hop-kinsville Police Sergeant Todd DeArmond, has won several awards over his career to include first place in the 2013 K-9 Olympics for Narcotic Residential Search in which 124 dog teams from 10 different states and 4 different countries competed. “Diesel”, who was handled for the last 4 years by Hopkinsville Police Sergeant Tyler DeArmond, also has won several awards over his career to include second place in the 2013 K-9 Olympics for Building Search Patrol.

During their careers, both K-9’s were involved in 948 Narcotic Deployments, 338 Patrol Deployments, and 29 Apprehensions. Both K-9’s also assisted law enforcement in the seizure of 11 vehicles, 9 guns, and approximately $243,000.

Both of these K-9’s were the starting points for large scale Federal and Local cases, that are still pending, and they have assisted other agencies in surrounding counties and states when called upon.

Whether locating a large amount of narcotics in a vehicle, tracking and apprehending a suspect, or searching for a missing child, these K-9’s remained an invaluable part of the department throughout their entire careers.
