paint brush 1HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (5/10/13) – The Hopkinsville Art Guild and the Princeton Art Guild will be hosting a plein air painting workshop May 16, 17, and 18.

Artists will be on the streets of downtown Hopkinsville at the Alhambra Theatre on Thursday, May 16 for the first day of the three-day event. The second day will be in Princeton and the third day will be at Brushy Fork Creek Studio and Gallery.

The workshop is being led by artist Bill Fletcher from Lexington, KY. Bill is an award winning Kentucky artist with a national reputation for his landscapes and still life collections. His work has been featured in Southwest Art, International Artist, and Keeneland Magazine. He has a great love for the land and enjoys helping others develop a positive relationship with their desire to create. This workshop is designed to introduce and integrate the fundamentals most essential to successful plein air painting.

Bill says, "With a logical structured approach I’ll show you the basics to choosing a subject and the 3 steps to painting: “block in”, “middle” and “finish”. We’ll focus on creating a sense of light, atmosphere and distance! There will be at least 6 hours of painting instruction every day. Each day will conclude with a group feedback session. This workshop is designed for people with at least some plein air experience (intermediate to advanced plein air painters)."
