phds org 300HENDERSON, Ky. (04/03/2013) – An online program first designed more than 15 years ago aims to help students develop an appropriate education path based on their personal goals continues to develop.

PhDs.org offers visitors more than just educational research, it also provides a place where people can search for jobs and gain from the experience of other students who have provided “student interviews” for the website.

Victoria Baker, who helped develop the project, told SurfKY in an email that she expects the site will continue to grow as time passes.

PhDs.org was originally created by with the help of a number of students from the Math Department at Dartmouth College. The site was made possible by the generous support of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and a Burke Research Initiation Award from Dartmouth College,” Baker said in her email. “The resource was created as part of our project’s larger mission to build a comprehensive resource with information that can’t be found elsewhere on the web. With the competitive nature of higher education and a plethora of graduate programs across the United States, we identified the need to help compile and sort through all this information. Working with the National Center for Education Statistics, we plan to continually research and update the database, as these education programs change frequently.

“We began the PhDs.org project in 1997 and we continually strive to add more data and update what we already have to be more useful to the online world users. When updating our data, we gather the information directly from the schools and we make sure that we update it regularly, to ensure that we are providing the best and most accurate information to our frequent visitors,” she added.

According to the website, past webmasters have included Albin Jones, Dartmouth College Ph.D. '99; Adam Clayton, Dartmouth '00; Jun Shen, Dartmouth '98; Michael Pryor, Dartmouth '98; and Dave Santoro, Dartmouth '98.
