RollingOWENSBORO, KY (1/289/12) – In February 2012, Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter 1 (www.rollingthunderky1.org) will begin operating out of Owensboro, Kentucky at the American Legion Post 9.

Rolling Thunder’s main issue is to make the public aware that many American soldiers were left behind after all past wars, but the organization also raises money to help support various veterans’ charities. The decision to move operations from Clarksville, Tennessee was based on the outpouring of support from Owensboro residents and other local veterans’ organizations.

The chapter meetings are held the third Sunday of every month at 1pm.  Guests are always welcome. A common misconception about Rolling Thunder is that a member has to be a Vet or ride a motorcycle to join.  This is untrue, as anyone is welcome to join the organization as long as they are interested in supporting veterans.

The first Owensboro meeting will be on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 1pm.  The address of the American Legion Post 9 is 118 West Veterans Boulevard.

The organization will also have a chili supper at the Legion the night before to kick off its tenure in Owensboro.  Starting time is 4:00 pm and the cost is $8.00 per person.  There will be food, music and prizes.  DJ services will be provided courtesy of James Putman of Rawhide & Ruffles.  All proceeds from the chili supper will go to local veterans’ organizations.
