OWENSBORO, KY (3/27/12) – The process for replacing the superintendent for Owensboro public schools system is now complete.
Mr. Owens Saylor has been named to lead the Daviess County Public Schools district into next year and beyond. Saylor was selected at a special meeting of the DCPS Board of Education on Monday night.
Saylor had previously served as deputy superintendent of the Jessamine County Public Schools system in Nicholasville. In response to his selection, Saylor said "Daviess County [school district] is among the state's most respected districts and I hope to use that status to leverage incredible learning opportunities for our students."
Saylor’s career began as a band director in Florida in 1980. He moved to Jessamine County to assume a similar post in 1989 and was then named assistant principal at East Jessamine High School in 1997. In 2000, Saylor was named principal of West Jessamine High School.
Saylor earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Kentucky and then proceed to earn his master's degree in music performance and his principal and superintendent certifications.
