OWENSBORO, KY (3/30/12) – In the next several weeks, a local construction project for military personnel will be completed.
Construction of the new National Guard Armory facility began in 2011. The 35,000 square foot facility will be soon ready for our soldiers to occupy and store valuable equipment.
Administration Officer Jason Aliff said "Being located at the airport gives us quick accessibility around the state and also, if supplies need to be flown in and used as a distribution center, we can do that as well."
The National Guard Armory is being built around an energy-saving model and will function as a Readiness Center in case of a natural disaster or emergency contingency.
"Green initiatives is a way for us to preserve funds that go towards energy and focus that back towards training and our mission," project manager Joseph Sloan said.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new National Guard facility is planned for mid-April.
