Over 1200 Pounds of Drugs Destroyed

PILL DRAGON 500

OWENSBORO, KY (6/12/12) – On June 12, 2012 the Owensboro Police Department partnered with the Henderson Police Department, Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, and the Army National Guard, to destroy over 1,200 pounds of drugs. The items consisted of illegal drugs seized by law enforcement and medications turned over to law enforcement by the community through the drug drop box program.

The Army National Guard has donated the use of their “Pill Dragon,” to a nonprofit organization called UNITE. (Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education) The “Pill Dragon” is a mobile incinerator which uses diesel fuel to dispose of unwanted or seized drugs in an environmentally friendly manner.

This is directly related to the mission of UNITE, as the organization attempts to educate and activate community coalitions to put an end to drug abuse.
