City Commission Speeds Through Light Agenda

Owensboro Seal 02 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/6/13) – At its meeting Tuesday evening, the Owensboro Board of Commissioners approved a series of ordinances, including a state mandated bid procedure for natural gas. Owensboro city officials during the meeting said they anticipated current contract holder Atmos Energy will be the only bidder for the new contract, and that they had worked with Atmos in preparing some of the language that would be included. A city resident questioned what would happen to the infrastructure if another company were to win the bid. City officials said the new company would most likely have to negotiate with Atmos if it wanted to buy the infrastructure, or build its own.

Owensboro Mayor Ron Payne pointed out the bid process is required by state law.

“If I had my druthers we’d award the thing (to Atmos) tonight, but we have to go through this process,” he said, adding that he feels Atmos is a good community partner with the city.

The commission also heard from Owensboro Parks and Recreation Manager Amanda Rogers regarding recent sporting events, and agreed to solicit grant funding for 10 digital in-car camera systems. Payne said he hoped the sequestration of the federal budget didn’t hurt the chances of getting the grant money.
