OPS Board of Education Finalizes Agenda for Thursday Night Meeting

ops4 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/24/13) – On Tuesday, April 23, the Owensboro Independent School District Board of Education held its weekly board luncheon at the central office on Griffith Avenue.

The meeting opened with the school board recognizing the Owensboro Police Department for their contributions to security in the Owensboro Public School System. The school board has worked in conjunction with the police department to assess any security faults in the districts’ school buildings.

A report requested by the board evaluated the estimated occupancy of the district’s school buildings. The outcome of this report would affect the district’s proposed rezoning within the next two years that would move fifth grade back into elementary schools, and the sixth grade into the north middle school 7-8 grade campus. The possibility of opening the 5-6 grade campus as a new elementary school was mentioned, but no action has been taken concerning this discussion as of yet.

Following the occupancy report, the board recessed into a closed session under KRS 61.810 for a student disciplinary hearing.

The board then reconvened to discuss the minutes and agenda for the regular board meeting this Thursday.
