Madisonville Fire Report – Strange Odor, Fire Alarm Activation and Traffic Accident

firereports2011new a 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/3/13) – On Thursday, May 2, the Madisonville Fire Department (MFD) reported three instances of activity within the Madisonville city limits.
 
At approximately 12:27 PM, MFD received a call via public service from the occupant of 111 South Main Street, American Red Cross. Caller advised that there was a strange odor inside the structure. Engine-17 and Battalion-2 responded to investigate. Upon arrival fire crew found nothing showing. Upon entering the structure firefighters found a strong sulfur smell. The interior of the building was checked with the combustible gas detector, multi gas detector, and thermal imaging camera. All readings were within normal limits. Firefighters removed ceiling tiles and checked the space above tiles. Occupant was advised to contact building maintenance personnel to check on the buildings plumbing. The odor was believed to have been caused by a dry trap in the plumbing system allowing sewer gas to enter the building. The scene was deemed safe. No further action was taken. All units returned to station.
 
At 2:12 PM, MFD received alarm from Central Dispatch for a report of a fire alarm activation at 425 Island Ford Road, Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home. Upon arrival fire crews found nothing showing. Upon entering structure fire crew was met by the building maintenance supervisor. The motor on the sprinkler system compressor had stopped working and the sprinkler system had charged causing the alarm. He estimated the system being down 3 to 4 hours while the repairs were being made. Crews informed staff to keep a fire watch and to contact the fire department when the repairs were made. Scene was deemed safe. No further action was taken. All units returned to station.
 
At 6:52 AM on Friday, MFD firefighters observed a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of East Center Street and Scott St. F-8 responded to investigate. Upon arrival firefighters found 2 vehicles involved. All occupants were out of the vehicles and refused treatment. Firefighters assisted one occupant in changing a tire on their vehicle. Both vehicles remained in service. No further action was taken. Unit returned to station.
