breakingnews surfky 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/21/13) – The Daviess County Coroner’s office confirmed this morning that a man injured while working on the repainting project of the “Blue Bridge” last night has died.

Officials told SurfKY News that the man, whose name hasn’t been released, was found unconscious in the safety netting on the bridge. Kentucky Department of Transportation officials said the man had burns on his hands consistent with possible electrical burns from wiring on the bridge. Workers used a lift to access the safety netting, cut him loose of the netting, and bring him down to street level.

The victim was transported to Owensboro Health, where he later succumbed to his injuries. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday morning but hasn’t yet been completed, according to the Daviess County Coroner.

The contractor and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet safety personnel will be initiating an investigation to determine the cause of the incident, Highway Department spokesperson Keith Todd said.

SurfKY News will provide updates as they become available.
