OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/31/13) – A semi overturned on the westbound ramp of the Natcher parkway early Friday morning. Workers on the scene tell SurfKY News that the truck is leaking fuel, which has to be pumped out before they can attempt to move the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the Owensboro hospital, where he is being checked for possible broken bones, according to Deputy Kenneth Burns at the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
“The spill was pretty much contained,” said Burns. “With the rain, some fuel may have washed into the adjacent field and creek, but at the time of the incident, the creek was dry.”
Authorities say there is minimal threat of an environmental hazard, as the tanker did not leak fuel. What fuel did leak came from the tractor cab’s tank. A dirt wall was erected to keep the fuel from spreading any further. Sheriff’s deputies are no longer on the scene; however, the westbound ramp of the Natcher Parkway remains closed as crews contain the accident.
Drivers are encouraged to the Natcher Parkway north exit and the U.S. 231 detour. Detour markers have been placed along the route.
