big rivers sebreeSEBREE, Ky. (7/10/13) – Big Rivers Electric’s Sebree Generating Station and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1701 were presented with the Governor’s Safety and Health Award after working more than 1 million hours without a lost-time accident.
 
The Governor’s Safety and Health Award, presented by the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, provides special recognition for outstanding safety and health performance and encourages the development of programs designed to reduce and even eliminate occupational injuries and illnesses.
 
Department of Workplace Standards Commissioner Anthony Russell presented the award July 9 to the 225 workers in Robards, Ky.
 
“Big Rivers’ Sebree Station is an example of employees and employers working together to create a safe work environment for all through a joint labor/management safety committee consisting of managers, employees and members of IBEW Local 1701,” said Russell. “This is the ninth safety award for the station, which is a powerful indication that they are doing things right.”
 
The award is given to employers and their employees who together have achieved the required number of hours worked without experiencing a lost-time injury or illness.
 
Big Rivers Electric Corp. is a generation and transmission electric cooperative that serves 22 counties in western Kentucky.
