Authorities: Charges Aren't Planned in Sunday Standoff in Ohio County

shooting incident_300OHIO COUNTY, Ky. (7/15/13) – A standoff in Ohio County ended peaceably on Sunday after Sheriff David Thompson made contact with the suspect who was believed to be barricaded in a home.

Deputies with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department told SurfKY News on Monday that Mark Fillback of the 5000 block of Rochester Rd. allegedly fired several round from a .22 caliber pistol into the floor following an altercation with family members.

Kentucky State Police, Ohio County Sheriff's Department, Hartford Police Department, and Beaver Dam Police Department were all dispatched to the scene, and after evacuating family members, established a perimeter to contain the situation. Law enforcement attempted to communicate with Fillback via public notification and cell phone, and were informed that Fillback would not leave the premises and wished to die. Later, Fillback was discovered to have fled the premises prior to the arrival of law enforcement on scene, and was located in the woods outside the containment perimeter.

Fillback surrendered to law enforcement following the discovery of his location in the woods and was transported to the Owensboro Health for evaluation. Police said they aren't filing charges against Fillback at this time.

According to Sergeant Chris Matthews, with the Ohio County Sheriff's Department, drug or alcohol influence isn't believed to be a factor in the occurrence.
