Military Student Services seeking donations for ‘Textbooks for Troops’ benefit auction

wku gray black borderBOWLING GREEN, Ky.(7/22/13) - WKU’s Military Student Services office is seeking donations for a benefit auction Dec. 7 to raise funds for “Textbooks for Troops.”

The program provides free textbooks to eligible active duty, National Guard, Reserve and veterans attending classes at WKU. Many service members, and especially older veterans, do not have adequate educational benefits to help pay for school and scholarship money is hard to come by. Programs such as this are crucial to their success.

Appropriate items for the benefit auction include: celebrity signed memorabilia, store and restaurant gift cards, vacation packages, tickets to concerts, sporting events, amusement parks and other attractions, hand-crafted items, etc. Attraction tickets need to be for the 2014 season. Themed baskets are also a great idea and could include scrapbooking, cooking, sewing, sports memorabilia, children’s books, beanie babies, baby items and more. Donations of services are also appreciated. Services can include lawn care, house cleaning or repair, vehicle maintenance, clothing alterations and more.

Secure online donations can be made by visiting www.wku.edu/veterans. Select “Give to WKU Military Student Services” and then select the WKU Make a Gift button near the bottom of the page.

The auction will be held Dec. 7 in the Augenstein Alumni Center’s Grand Ballroom from 1 to 4 p.m. Preview of items will begin at noon.
