Back-to-School Home Visits Scheduled in Daviess County

dcps2 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/24/13) – Four Daviess County Public Schools elementary schools have scheduled staff visits to neighborhoods in which their students reside.

Meadow Lands Elementary School staff members will meet for breakfast at the school (3500 Hayden Road) at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, to map out routes to visit neighborhoods of more than 500 students. MLES teachers, wearing bright red “Setting the Stage” shirts, will distribute back-to-school information and treats as they visit students’ homes. (For media purposes: MLES will be at Colony Estates at 9:30 a.m.)

MLES Principal Kevin Lowe (852-7450) said the visits set a positive tone for the beginning of the new school year. “Students make engaging connections at Meadow Lands for 173 days each year, and for at least one day, we want to make a connection at each student’s home,” Lowe said. “We want to increase our family engagement by having meaningful relationships with every family that are positive and encouraging, right from the start of the school year.”

The MLES staff will return to the school at 11:30 a.m. for lunch and then resume their visits in the afternoon.

Tamarack Elementary School will continue its annual “Rock the Block” tradition with a back-to-school home visit blitz starting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31. Allison Coomes, TES principal (852-7550), said the event will give teachers an opportunity to visit their students’ neighborhoods and let kids know how excited the staff is about welcoming them back to the first day of school. “Positive relationships are the foundation of student achievement,” Coomes said. “This is going to be a great year at Tamarack Elementary School, and we are all looking forward to going ‘the extra mile’ to show our students we care!”

East View Elementary School has scheduled a “leaders meet future leaders” event from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 5. Principal Ann Marie Williams (852-7350) said EVES staff will meet and greet students and families in their neighborhoods with special treats.

West Louisville Elementary School is planning a “Tigers Tour the Town” event from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6 – the day before school begins. Principal Nathan Satterly (852-7650) and his staff members will tour the WLES district to meet and greet families at points along the route.
