My Kentucky Roads: Old Richardsville Road Bridge

OLD BRIDGE2 300BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (7/27/13) – Built in 1889, by King Iron Company of Cleveland Ohio, the Old Richardsville Bridge rests over the Barren River in Warren County just outside Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The State of Kentucky is Rich with tradition and folklore. There has been speculation that this particular bridge is haunted. Many stories have been passed down from generation to generation. Stories from a bus of kids crashing, to a young woman crashing, to a suicidal unmarried pregnant women and so on. However, in every story, if you put your vehicle in neutral and spread flour or baby powder on both ends of your car, legend has it, your car will be pushed to the end of the bridge and you can see hand prints on your car.

With a length span of 138.1ft, this three span bowstring arch-truss bridge is the last of its kind in Kentucky. The bridge was registered in the National Register of Historic Places by the United States Department of the Interior.
